Holy Week

Maundy Thursday begins at 7:30 PM, on Thursday, April 1, with Holy Communion and the washing of feet.

Good Friday begins at 7:30 PM on Friday, April 2, with the liturgy of Tenebrae. There will NOT be a choir special that night as was stated in the previous newsletter. The plans were changed and the choir decided to spend more time preparing some Easter anthems. Please note that Good Friday is a fast day, and if you can fast for the day, or at least part of it, it will be a blessing to you.


Easter Sunday, April 4 at the usual time! (9:30 for Sunday School, and 10:45 for Holy Communion.) We have a great day of worship and music planned. Don’t miss the children’s Easter egg hunt on the church grounds right after the service. It usually goes by pretty quickly!

 

Spring

As spring arrives many will be gardening, picking up trash, cleaning, and enjoying the multitude of blessings of God’s creation during this season. Let’s both adorn the earth with beauty and delight in it.

 

Baptism

Lucas Ambrose Hughes was baptized on March 7, and the Hughes family treated the congregation to a nice luncheon afterwards. Thank you Gail, Kate, Evan, big brother Jacob, and the rest of the family!

 

After Church Fellowship

Jean Mehne and Theresa Forgione will host the next after worship fellowship on  May 1.

 

Attic Sale

The Attic sale is scheduled for April 10, from 9 A.M. to 1 P.M. Please bring all your donated “stuff” ASAP, as the ladies who work like to start setting things up a week in advance. Jane Statsman and Marge Bohn are in charge, and would like as much help as possible setting up, as well as the day of. There will also be a bake sale along with the attic sale to help the Youth Group fund. Ellen Williams would appreciate the donations of baked goods for that.

 

Nursery Renovations

The renovations are underway, with much cleaning and painting and and hard work going on! Thank you to Jaime and Dave Mosher who have organized and put a lot of time and effort into this. It will be a huge blessing for our families with little ones.

 

Nursery Schedule

Jaime Mosher is also setting up a new nursery schedule. She still needs several more volunteers to help with this. If enough people sign, the times for helping will be spaced out only once every 6-8 weeks, so please consider offering to help.

 

Sexton Duties

Many thanks to those who clean up the church building and grounds. We still need more volunteers to vacuum the narthex and hallways, clean men’s bathroom, and help take turns cleaning Kidwell Hall. Please speak to Pastor Paul if you can help.

 

Work Day

This is scheduled for May 15 at 9 AM. Come and bring your elbow grease!

 

5-K Race

Out next 5-K race is scheduled for July 17, 2010 at 9:00 A.M. The GRECO committee and the Amicos are hard at work hammering out the details. Look for more news of this in the next issue of Grace Notes.
 

Choir and Wind Ensemble

More members are needed in the choir. If you can play and instrument, we’d love to have you in the wind ensemble! Please consider joining. Please note that choir and wind ensemble rehearsals have been changed to Tuesday nights at 7:30 P.M.(instead of Wednesdays).

 

Wednesday Morning Bible Study

The Wednesday Morning Women’s Bible Study is examining a book called Hope, the Anchor of the Soul, by “Women of Faith” Jeane Mehne guides this study, which begins at 9:45 A.M. each week.

 

Men's Fellowship & Study

The men continue to meet for prayer and fellowship at Tony Amico’s garage (The Man Cave). They are going through the book Disciplines of a Godly Man, by Kent Hughes, that has generated great discussions about theology, needs, prayer, and fellowship. The next study will be on Wednesday evening, April 28, at 7:30 P.M. 

 

Spiritual Mothering Study

The monthly Friday evening Women’s Bible Study will next meet on Friday, April 23rd at 7:00 P.M. It is at Beth Howden’s home. All women invited.

 

On-Line Daily Bread

Fr. Charles Erlandson of Tyler, Texas, a good friend of Pastor Paul’s, writes a daily e-mail message which is a great devotional. It is free. To sign up, just send a request to be added to his mailing list at reverlandson@hotmail.com.

Exodus Study

The Adult Sunday School Class continues to walk through the book of Exodus. Please join us at 9:30 A.M. on Sundays for this important class.

GRECO

The Grace REC Outreach Committee (GRECO) meets in Kidwell Hall on the first Saturday of each month at 11 A.M. Evan Hughes will head up this committee. Please join us as we strive to plan out the outreach and evangelism of the parish. A church home picnic is planned for this summer.  

Annual Parish Meeting

The annual congregational meeting will take place on April 19, 2010. One important vote will be the adoption of new by-laws for the parish. 

Denominational Meetings

This April 15-17 Beth and Pastor Howden will attend meetings in South Carolina. Pastor is on the Board of Foreign Missions and Beth on the Liturgical Music Commission.

Crisis Pregnancy Center

Please continue to support this ministry in your prayers and giving. In the recent newsletter, director Tammy Johnson wrote that they have begun to have parenting classes, and that they would like donations for the nursery area, including a bean bag chair, rocking chair, play pen or pack & play, short book shelf, and a toy box. Also, the second annual banquet will be help on Thursday, June 3, 2010, at the Inn of the Abingtons. There are actually two banquets for the day, one at 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., and one at 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Reservations may be made by calling 207-1907 by May17th, specifying which time you would like to attend. It is $10.00 per person.

Scranton Rescue Mission

Saturday June 5, is our next date for serving the needy at the Scranton Rescue Mission. Please see Bob Crane if you are willing to help with this ministry.

Annual Parish Meeting

The annual congregational meeting will take place on April 19, 2010. One important vote will be the adoption of new by-laws for the parish. 

Addiction Class

The drug and alcohol addiction meetings are being well attended with Kathy Toothill leading. Several people including Ron and Linda Burdick are assisting Kathy in this class.

Sunday School Classes

David Mosher led a meeting of the Sunday School teachers. Some new changes and improvements will be implemented. Scott Pineau teaches the little kids. Linda Burdick, with the help of Marge Bohn, teaches the nursery; Elaine Kester has taken over the Jr. High; Evan Hughes continues to teach the high schoolers, and Pastor Paul the adults. 


2010 Summer Mission Trip to Collingdale

Plan on participating in the summer team to Grace R.E. Church this June 20-25. Some of the details and price have yet to be worked out, but the trip should be a great one.

Camps

Five young people from Grace Church attended the Winter Camp in Maryland. The kids who went attest to a tremendous time of worship, fun, food, and Christian challenge. The summer camp will take place July 19-23 at Rock Mountain Bible Camp.
